 “Mixing” And Mingling At Mobile Beat
Digital Underground was amazing, Skee-Lo filled the room with
energy, Paperboy smoldered… but when it came to sheer technical
virtuosity and DMC skills, our own Edgar Bernal (aka DJ Entronik), a
former US DMC DJ Champion, left the American DJ Customer
Appreciation Party crowd in awe! Nothing could have pleased American
Audio National Sales Manager Tom Freret more. Aside from being
proud of his friend and colleague, Tom was thrilled that the
thrilling performance by Edgar showcased the new VMS4.1.
You’ve been a champion of the VMS4
technology for some time, so it must have warmed your heart to see
Edgar tear it up on that machine at the American DJ Customer
Appreciation Party.
“It sure did; we always said that the VMS4 family of products was
developed for the performance minded DJ and perform is exactly what
Edgar did on stage. It was truly amazing how he moved his fingers
over the crossfader so smoothly and tightly. He is really gifted.”
But you’re not saying that anyone can
play like Edgar if they got a VMS4.1?
“No – we all know that. We all know that Edgar is gifted, but we
also know that the VMS4.1 can bring out the best in anyone’s
performance regardless of the level of their DMC skills.”
So what is it about the VMS4.1 that
makes it such a great performance tool?
“There are a lot of little things like the feel of the rubber knobs
that are illuminated so they’re easy to see in a club environment
and like the on-off switch that blinks if you drive your mic too
hard. There are also a lot of big things like our exclusive American
Audio DSP D-Core Audio Engine inside the unit. It’s also the fact
that the VMS4.1 is so powerful and versatile, with so many MIDI
assignable functions that there really isn’t anything that you can’t
do with it as a performer.”
You mentioned the DSP D-Core Audio
Engine, can you tell us a little more about it?
“It’s a studio quality audio engine with pro stage microphone
circuitry, so it ensures that you have optimal sound in terms of
quality and volume. DSP D-Core incorporates new technology that
significantly enhances sound output. The greater output means that
you don’t have to push as hard to get the volume out, which in turn
means less distortion and less mic distortion.”
What are some of the other big things
that make the VMS4.1 special?
“As you know, the VMS4.1 comes bundled with Virtual DJ software, so
it’s ready to work with your laptop right out of the box. The two
independent mic inputs it has are also very important, as are the
crossfader adjustment and balanced XLR output.”
As a performance tool, the VMS4.1
really seemed to stand up to Edgar’s monster performance; this is
one reliable and rugged media player isn’t it?
“It sure is; we designed for the way great DJs perform, so it’s
built for speed and intense usage. One of the things I like are our
newly redesigned channel faders. These faders along with the crossfader are very responsive, but they’re also very rugged. You
can see this if you watch a video of Edgar performing at our party.
The channel faders and cross faders can take some punishment. As I
said we designed the VMS4.1 to be a performance tool, and if you
look at the way Edgar performs on it I think you’ll have to say that
we did a very good job.”
